I am sitting here reflecting on a fun rehearsal gearing up for a performance with the Palisades Sinfonietta. The concert will be taking place on Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, at 4pm at the Broadway Presbyterian Church (at 114th and Broadway in Manhattan). I have been enjoying playing under the baton of conductor Michael Avagliano, as we prepare Bizet’s Adagio, from Symphony in C; Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (with Eric Clark being featured as the piano soloist); and Mozart’s Symphony No. 38, The Prague Symphony.
In preparing this concert, I have been growing to realize that Symphony No. 38 might be my favorite of Mozart’s Symphonies. For awhile I have been torn between No. 35 (the Haffner), and No. 40, but there is something about the melodrama that takes place in this symphony that I have been finding engaging.
Do you have a favorite Mozart Symphony?
