Kicking off a recording project fundraiser!

Well, it looks like the cat is out of the bag! I am looking forward to returning to the recording studio next month, with anticipation of doing video recordings of a few different works. I am planning to go to Scholes Street Studios to record three works:

The first of these works, which is of utmost importance to me, is Anthony R. Green’s Two Pages for Kara. Anthony wrote this piece in July 2011, a little over a year after my younger sister, Kara Lynn Williams passed away suddenly. Since that time, I have performed it on several occasions, most recently in June 2024 at the American Viola Society Festival at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles. It is a powerful work that explores the raw emotions of grief, and also highlights the light that my sister was in the lives of so many of her family and friends.

In his program notes, Anthony suggested that an optimal presentation of this piece would be accompanied with a slide show, showing photos of Kara at various points throughout her life. It has taken me a long time to be emotionally ready to do that, and my goal is to plan to put that together over the next few months.

Additionally in this recording session, I am planning on doing some video recording on violin as well, with a plan of doing video recordings of the first two movements of Adolphus Hailstork’s Suite for Solo Violin (the Prelude and March); along with with Vermont-based composer Dennis Báthory-Kitsz’s solo violin piece iota. Hailstork’s suite was one of the first pieces that helped to inspire to me fall in love with the violin all over again during the COVID lockdowns. Dennis Báthory-Kitsz’s work was one of several pieces I performed on viola and violin on the Piano by Nature concert series in Elizabethtown, NY in October 2023 (celebrating Báthory-Kitsz’s 75th Birthday!)

All proceeds will be going directly towards funding this recording project, along with the cost of editing the videos and recordings, as well as any fees associated with distributing recordings on YouTube. Any additional proceeds raised will be put towards future recording projects.
